Talk by Richard Smout
Freshwater & Totland Archive Group
is pleased to announce that it is active in the community, once more! – On Tuesday 14th September at 7.00 pm, Richard Smout will give a talk entitled
“What historic church archives tell us about the West Wight, This will take place in the Wesley Hall, Brookside Road, Freshwater, entry £3.00.
Richard describes the talk as follows:-
“The West Wight has a fine range of church buildings, and an equally diverse collection of church archives. These documents date back to Tudor England and tell the story of our communities over the last 500 years. In this talk we will find out more not just about the buildings, but about parish life, and the lives of the individuals that they served. We will also look briefly at some of the clergy who worked in this area, and get a sense of some of the challenges that they faced.”
Richard will be using ‘handouts’ to illustrate his talk.
We look forward to seeing you at the hall, for what promises to be a very interesting evening.
Richard is the Isle of Wight Heritage Service Manager, Culture and Partnership Development Isle of Wight County Record Office, Newport, Isle of Wight
